Daphne’s Plea - by Jane Ellen

Help me, Father! Open the earth 
to enclose me, or change my form.

I refuse to trade my woodlands
for the tomb of a marriage house.

Don’t speak to me of grandchildren!

Bobolinks sing lullabies sweeter than I
who would rather romp barefoot
with the rabbit and the red fox

than be cracked open like a mollusk 
to let Apollo in. These hips 
were not meant to dandle babies.

Keep me safe, Father,
from the hard wants of a man.

If I must be rooted, plant my feet
in rich soil, let my womanly flesh
harden to bark, and let my limbs, 

robust in sleeves of evergreen, 
keep reaching for the sun.

Sadism

When the parrot
Was about to fly,
The feathers were broken
By a sadist.

When the peacock
Was about to dance,
The legs were injured
By an evildoer.

When the nightingale
Was humming rhythmically,
The melody was interrupted
By a maniac.

When the sculptor
Was carving a statue,
The figure was ruined
By a vandal.

Life

Life;
Life is something that is unknown
Life is something that is yet to be shown
Life is planned by the decisions we make
Life is made by the things we fake
Life is a thing that cannot be explained
Life has still a while to be made
Life is influenced by the people on t.v
Life is inspired by the people we see
Life is about the friends we meet
Life is about the friends we keep
Life is filled with friends and family
Life is to be taken very carefully
Life is about the people we left
Life is about the grief caused by death
Life is not a stream of qualifications
Life is an experience to take in consideration
Life may be made by school
Life may not always be cool
Life has bad times that create pain
Life has good times that won't be forgotten
Life will always start from the bottom.
